Protein is an essential nutrient for everyone, not just athletes and bodybuilders. Most people can get the protein that they require from a good and well-balanced diet. Protein is one of three main macronutrients (the others being carbohydrate and fat). Macronutrients are the chemical compounds that humans ingest most of, giving us most of our energy. Proteins consist of amino acids and are the most regularly found molecules in cells.
